Tuesday 28 April 2009 - Longview
We're in Oil Mining Country!!
The team took a very interesting tour of the Letourneau Plant.

Lunch was spent with the Rotary Club of Longview where we presented our Aussie information to a large and enthusiastic crowd. Thanks very much to President Pat and all who attended.
EAST TEXAS OIL MUSEUM
in Kilgore

It was an excellent and very interactive museum full with a movie theatre, a lift that took us to the centre of the earth and all sorts of fun displays including an old drug store which Grace and Nikki enjyed rummaging through.
Dinner was at the famous Country Tavern and boy does it deserve it's famous name! There are no menus - basically you have either a small, medium or large serve of ribs - and we all agreed that they are the best ribs we've ever tasted!
After lunch Shirley Griffin and James Roberts took us to the East Texas Oil Museum.

Sunday 26 April 2009 Mount Vernon/Longview
Saturday 25 April 2009 - Mount Vernon
Pat gave us a quick tour of her home town, stopping at some of the beautiful historical buildings for photo opportunities.
A happy time was spent rummaging through the Jefferson general store and a few souvenirs and gifts brought. It was then back in the van to rumble on to the Los Pinos winery for some tastings. The sweet wine were declared good, but the dry’s left the tasters palates needing some Sangria.
Dinner was a chili cook-off and tasting in Mt Ve
rnon and then the kind folk at Mt Vernon scheduled an outing at the Loan Star Saloon!!! It wasn’t long before we were boot scooting round the dance floor. We all got a good workout when the local cowboys twirled us round and round. Grace and Gracie used their charm to get a photo on a nice big Harley. A few tequilas later and we were chatting, dancing and playing shuttle board with the locals. Six Aussie girls in green intrigued the Texan men and we were famous for an evening.
Gracie, Tom and Nikki wouldn’t let the night end when the pub closed at 1am, so we took off to Tom and Sandy’s farm. As we drove down the mile long driveway we began to realise why they love this place so much. Met by Sandy and the dogs at the door, Tom needed little encouragement from Nik to get the quad bikes firing for a 2am adventure around the farm! Gracie was in her element, rocking on the love seat looking out into nature. When Tom got the guns out Nikki and Grace fled to the corner of the room, however it wasn’t long before Gracie looked just the part in her cowgirl boots with gun in hand.
Friday 24 April 2009 - Mount Vernon
The crew scattered to the four winds in the morning, with Renee and Nikki heading to Sulphur Springs to tour Medicine Chest ("it was great", quote Nikki). Grace and Grace toured several of Mount Vernon’s medical facilities and Tilai and Nina hit the computer at BF Hicks Law office for some internet time.
There was a helter skelter of activity as the crew descended on the Mount Vernon Rotary Club for our much anticipated presentation. Our hosts had talked us up so much that in the desire to live up to expectations we ran drastically overtime. (oops!)
The much anticipated boat trip on the lake was cancelled due to high winds, but it didn’t stop Nikki and Renee from scaring the living daylights out of Tom Shiels who was unfortunate enough to volunteer to take them out on the jet ski.
Tom admitted later in the evening that he had only been out on the craft 4 times and never been so fast (Renee even lost her towel).
